This topic describes a suggested workflow when working in Functional Generative Design.

Prepare the 3D Shape and Partition the Design Space

Remove fillets, holes, and faces. See Preparing Your 3D Shape.
Select the volume and the cutting elements. See Partitioning the Design Space.

Perform the Topology Optimization

Specify the design space and select functional regions.
Validate the design shape.
Specify the targets.
Compute the refined shape.
Validate the behavior of the resulting shape.

Reconstruct the Shape

Add frozen regions to the shape to automatically reapply loads for the final validation. See Extracting Frozen Regions.
Define profiles and pockets to reconstruct the concept shape. See Reconstructing the Concept Shape.

Analyze the Shape

Identity whether and where supports are required to print the 3D model. See Visualizing the Overhang Analysis.
Perform a trade-off study to select the best design. See Performing Trade Off Studies.

Perform the Shape Optimization

Create the disconnect feature. See Disconnecting Features.
Specify the design area and the shape local optimization areas. See Defining the Model Configuration and Local Optimization Areas.
Specify the target.
Compute the refined shape.
