Procedure for Animating Humans

This procedure walks you through the workflow of Human Animation Studio.

  1. Create or open a human to animate. You have the following possibilities:
    • To create a human model from scratch, from the Compass, click My Social and Collaborative Apps and select Human Animation Studio. The Create Human panel appears by default. For more information, see Creating a Human.
    • To use an existing human model:
      1. Search for an existing human model. See Searching for a Human.
      2. In Product Finder, click to select the model and open it.
      3. From the Compass, click My Social and Collaborative Apps and select Human Animation Studio.
  2. Optional: Customize the appearance of the human model. See Changing Human Appearance.
  3. To animate the human model, do either of the following:
  4. Export the animation as a BVH file. See Exporting an Animation as a BVH File.
  5. Import the BVH file in third-party animation authoring software, edit it, and export it again in BVH format. See Exchanging a BVH File with Third-Party Software. See also the documentation provided with the third-party software.
  6. Import the modified BVH file in Human Animation Studio. See Importing a BVH File.
Important: Export and subsequent import of a given BVH file must be performed on the exact same human skeleton. Therefore, keep the following in mind:
    • As an example, consider a human model that we will call Jane: if you export an animation of Jane, it is for Jane, and Jane only, that you must re-import the BVH file.
    • Make sure that you do not modify the human's skeleton in the third-party software, otherwise you will not be able to re-import it in Human Animation Studio.
