Creating a New Sub Requirement

You can create sub requirements to elaborate on an existing requirement.

Required responsibilities:

  • Baseline: Leader (when the object is in the Frozen state) or Author

  1. Select a requirement or specification name.

    The requirement page or specification page opens showing the selected object and any requirements and sub requirements. The selected object is at the top of the list.

  2. Select the original requirement in the requirement list, or select any of the requirements in the specification list.
  3. Select Actions > Insert New > Sub Requirement to create a sub requirement and insert it in the parent requirement structure.
  4. Enter these details for the new sub requirement:

    Field NameDescription
    TypeClick to select a requirement type or subtype.
    TitleType a short descriptive identifier for the sub requirement.
    ContentEnter the sub requirement content in the free-form area. Use the rich text controls to format text and to add tables and graphics. See Editing Rich Content.
    Owner If you are not the sub requirement's owner, click to select another owner.
    Priority From the drop-down list, select the priority for fulfilling the sub requirement:

    • Pre-assigned
    • Low
    • Medium
    • High
    • Urgent

    DifficultyFrom the drop-down list, select the estimated level of difficulty implementing the sub requirement:

    • High
    • Medium
    • Low

    Sponsoring CustomerClick to select the customer sponsoring the sub requirement.
    Requirement CategoryType the sub requirement category.
    Target Specification or ChapterClick to assign the sub requirement to a requirement specification or chapter. By default, the sub requirement is not assigned to any requirement specification.
    Requirement ClassificationFrom the drop-down list, select the classification for the sub requirement:

    • None
    • Functional
    • Non-Functional
    • Constraint

    StatusFrom the drop-down list, select the status of the allocation link between the sub requirement and the parent requirement:
    • Suspect
    • Valid
    • Invalid
    DecisionClick to create a decision or select an existing decision associated with the creation of the sub requirement.

  5. Click Create and close.

    The new sub requirement opens in a new browser window. See Requirement Detail Page.
