Model Version Hierarchy Page

The Model Version Hierarchy page allows you to build a hierarchy of model version revisions. All model version hierarchies created or modified through the Model Version Hierarchy page are marked as logical model version structures.

Required access roles:

  • App-specific: Defect Engineer
  • Baseline: Owner

You can copy and move model versions within the Model Version Hierarchy page using drag and drop. All model versions beneath the copied or moved model version are copied or moved with it in the model version hierarchy. You cannot move a model version from a Model Version Hierarchy page opened in a separate browser window or tab into a list or table opened in the main browser window or tab; you can only copy a model version in that situation (selecting Move will actually perform the Copy action in the background).

The page displaying the model version to be copied must be shown in the Details display mode, but the Model Version Hierarchy page showing the target of the copied model version can be in either Details display mode or Graph display mode. You can drag and drop to copy or move model versions within the model version hierarchy when the Model Version Hierarchy page is in either Details display mode or Graph display mode.

To access this page:

  1. Open the model version.
  2. In the navigation pane, select Defect Management.
  3. Select the Model Version Hierarchy tab.

Columns

You will see the Unresolved Defects (without Dispositions) and Waived Defects (without Dispositions) columns only when using the Affecting Defects page filter.
Column Name Description
Name The name of the model version.
Type The type of the model version (for example, Hardware Product or Software Product).
Revision The revision of the model version.
Hierarchy TagThe tag associated with the href to the model version revision. This tag is linked to the model version revision through a hierarchical reference. This field does not list any tags associated with the model version revision that are outside the hierarchical reference. You can edit the hierarchy tag value inline, but you must select an existing tag.
Relative Path The relative path that indicates where the data for the sub-module is placed on disk, relative to the parent module, when the data is fetched from the DesignSync vault. You can edit this value when the page is in Edit mode.
Unresolved Defects (without Dispositions)This column only displays when the Affecting Defects view is applied to the page.

The number of unresolved defects (in either the Open state or the Test state) for the model version revision, and in parentheses, the number of these defects that do not have dispositions for that model version revision. Click the counts to open the Affecting Open Defects report. See Affecting Open or Waived Defects Reports.

Your Business Administrator can control the set of states that are included in this column.

Waived Defects (without Dispositions)This column only displays when the Affecting Defects view is applied to the page.

The number of waived defects (either in the Closed state or have a Resolution Category value of Waiver or Workaround) for the model version revision, and in parentheses, the number of these defects that do not have dispositions for that model version revision. Click the counts to open the Affecting Waived Defects report. See Affecting Open or Waived Defects Reports.

Your Business Administrator can control the set of states that are included in this column.

StateThe state of the model version revision.
DescriptionText describing the model version revision. You can edit this value when the page is in Edit mode.
DSFA SelectorIf there is a DSFA connection, this field shows the selector assigned to the model version revision.
Click to open the Properties page for the object in a new window.

Filters

Click to filter the page view. The No Defect Report filter must be selected to enable drag and drop editing of the model version hierarchy. Drag and drop capabilities and the Create Hierarchical Reference and Remove Hierarchical Reference actions are not available when the Affecting Defects filter is selected.

FilterDescription
Affecting DefectsShows the defects that affect the model version revisions at each level in the model version hierarchy. See About Affecting Defects.
No Defect ReportShows the model version hierarchy, but not any defects affecting the model version revisions in the hierarchy. This is the default page view.

Actions/Toolbar Commands

The following options are available from the Actions menu or the page toolbar:

ActionDescriptionFor More Information
Create Hierarchical Reference Allows you to create a hierarchical reference to the selected model version revision.

Required access roles:

  • App-specific: Defect Engineer
  • Baseline: Owner

Note: This action is not available when the Affecting Defects filter is applied to the page.
Creating a Hierarchical Reference
Remove Hierarchical ReferenceRemoves the hierarchical reference between the selected node and its parent node in the model version hierarchy tree. Click OK to confirm. The selected node can be any node other than the top node.

Required access roles:

  • App-specific: Defect Engineer
  • Baseline: Owner

Note: This action is not available when the Affecting Defects filter is applied to the page.
-
Import Module Hierarchy Imports a DesignSync module hierarchy into a model version revision. Selecting a model version revision enables this option.

Required access roles:

  • App-specific: Defect Engineer
  • Baseline: Leader

Importing a DesignSync Module Hierarchy as a Model Version Hierarchy
Create Defect Creates a defect that is reported against the selected model version revision. Selecting a model version revision enables this option.

Required access roles:

  • App-specific: Defect Engineer
  • Baseline: Author

Creating a Defect
Report Conflicting RevisionsGenerates a Conflicting Revisions report for the model version hierarchy if there are any. Reporting Conflicting Revisions in a Model Version Hierarchy
Export to DesignSync Exports this model version and its hierarchy to DesignSync as a new module or revised branch of an existing module.

Roll Up CountsWhen set to Yes in the Affecting Defects view, shows the cumulative number of defects and, in parentheses, the number of those defects without dispositions, for each level of the model version hierarchy plus all defects from below it in the model version hierarchy.

When set to No in the Affecting Defects view, shows the cumulative number of defects and, in parentheses, the number of those defects without dispositions, for only that level of the model version hierarchy.

Roll Up Counts
Enable EditToggles the page into Edit mode. In Edit mode, you can edit the Hierarchy Tag, Relative Path, and Description values of the model versions in the hierarchy in this mode.

-
Copy Toggles the page into Copy mode. In Copy mode, you can drag and drop a model version into the model version hierarchy as a child of the model version selected as the target location, leaving the copied model version unmodified in its original location.

The No Defect Report filter must be selected to enable drag and drop editing of the model version hierarchy.

Required access roles:

  • App-specific: Defect Engineer
  • Baseline: Owner

3DEXPERIENCE Basics: Structured Content in Edit Mode
Move Toggles the page into Move mode. In Move mode, you can drag and drop a model version within the model version hierarchy as a child of the model version selected as the target location, removing the connection to the moved model version in its original location.

The No Defect Report filter must be selected to enable drag and drop editing of the model version hierarchy.
