What's New

This page describes recent changes in 3DPlay Web App.

This page discusses:

R2022x FD01 (FP.2205)

Page by Page Scrolling and Continuous Scrolling for PDFs

When displaying a PDF document, two new commands, Page by Page Scrolling and Continuous Scrolling are now available in the View section of the action bar.
Tip: If you need more reading space, you can hide user interface items such as the action bar by clicking the PDF. Click it again to restore user interface items.
Benefits: You can scroll PDFs using your preferred method. You can also gain reading space.
For more information, see Displaying PDF Documents

Text-aware Highlighter for PDFs and Other 2D Documents

Text recognition is now available when using the highlighter with PDF documents and other 2D documents.
Tip: Just after highlighting, you can keep the mouse clicked for a couple of seconds. This replaces the free stroke by a straight line.
Benefits: The user experience when displaying 2D documents is improved.
For more information, see Displaying PDF Documents

Annotation Tour for PDFs and Other 2D Documents

The Annotation Tour command is now available in the action bar for 2D documents.
Benefits: You can now browse annotations in 2D documents.
For more information, see Displaying PDF Documents

Share an Annotated PDF Document as Social Comment in the 3DPlay widget

In the 3DPlay widget, you can now share annotations on a PDF (stored in 3DDrive, 3DSpace, or 3DSwym) as a comment to 3DSwym communities or conversations. Click Share as Comment .
Benefits: It is now possible to share comments in the 3DPlay widget.
For more information, see Displaying PDF Documents

Ability to Edit Annotation Shape

You can now edit the shape of an annotation (and text) after you have created it (during the length of the session).
To edit the annotation, click it.

Benefits: This improves the user experience when creating annotations.

D&D support from Desktop for 3D XML and PDF

You can now preview 3D XML and PDF files by dragging them from your file system, and dropping them onto the 3DPlay widget.
Benefits: You can now preview 3D XML and PDF files that are located in your file system rather than on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, and then save them to 3DDrive, 3DSpace, or 3DSwym.
For more information, see Opening Content

View Modes

A new command, View Modes , is available in the View section of the action bar on mid- to large-size widgets on a desktop.
This command displays a panel that enables you to define view mode settings, such as shading, edges, ambiance, etc.

The following visualization commands, which were previously available in the action bar, are moved to this panel: View Modes, Shading, Filter Lineic Elements.

Note: This command is also available in the markup, review, and interference experiences, and in the 3D Tolerancing & Annotation scenario.

Benefits: This enhancement simplifies the user interface and improves the user experience when using mid to large-size widgets on desktop, by grouping various visualization-related commands in a single location.
For more information, see View Section for 3D Content Materials

Requirement Experience

In the new requirement experience, you can now display requirement specification and requirements, along with the requirement tree structure.
Benefits: This functionality lets you visualize requirements and requirement specifications, to communicate with others by exchanging requirements.
For more information, see Displaying Requirement Content

Display or Hide Right-Side Panel for Web Experiences

The Display Side Panel command is now available in the action bar for Web experiences.
Benefits: In this panel, you can view the properties of the experience or view added comments.
For more information, see Displaying Creative Experience Content

Positioning a Section Using Geometries

When sectioning elements, the new Position from geometry option in the context toolbar lets you define the section position based on the selected geometries.
Benefits: This functionality lets you define precisely the section position, which improves productivity and reduces the risk of misunderstandings created by less precise positioning.

Support for Additional Data Types

In the review experience, you can now open reviews linked to all the data types that are now supported in Design Review For Dashboard and Design Validation.
Benefits: This functionality facilitates and improves collaboration by letting you review and validate a variety of data types.

Performance Enhancement for Drawings files in 3DDrive

When opening a CATDrawing, SLDRDRW, or eDRW file in 3DPlay Web App, a UDL stream renders these documents (instead of using SVG as their internal visualization formats as was previously the case).
Benefits: This improves the loading time of very large drawings, the memory consumption of large drawings, and the fluidity of the display.

Support of Microsoft Office Documents

You can now open and display in 3DPlay Web App the following types of Microsoft Office documents hosted in 3DSpace:
  • Microsoft Word: .doc, .docx
  • Microsoft PowerPoint: .ppt, .pptx
  • Microsoft Excel: .xls, .xlsx
Benefits: Microsoft Office documents are now supported with 3DPlay Web App.
For more information, see Supported PLM Objects and 2D and 3D File Formats

Recognition of Annotation Shape: User Experience Improvement

When annotating 2D or 3D content with the pen tool, you can now decide whether or not you want the annotation shape to be recognized for smoothing.

Shape smoothing is particularly useful when sketching geometric forms such as circles, ellipses, triangles, or rectangles. However, shape smoothing may sometimes interfere with what you are doing, for example when sketching text or purposefully drawing irregular forms.

To smoothen a geometric form, before completing the shape, stop drawing and hold the cursor. A preview of the recognized shape is displayed. To have the shape recognized, lift the mouse or finger. To preserve the rough shape of the form you are drawing, keep on drawing.

Benefits: Previously, when using the pen tool, shape smoothing was always applied. You can now decide whether or not you want shape smoothing, which improves the user experience.

Share an Annotated PDF Document as Social Comment

You can share an annotated PDF document stored in 3DDrive or in 3DSpace as a comment to 3DSwym communities or conversations, using Share as Comment .

Benefits: Previously, Share as Comment was only available on the cloud, for PDF documents hosted on and viewed through 3DSwym. Now, this command is also available for PDF documents stored in 3DDrive or in 3DSpace.
For more information, see Displaying PDF Documents

Improved User Experience for 2D Documents

The maximum zoom level for 2D documents (such as Drawings, images, or PDF documents) is increased.
When a 2D document is open, in the View section of the action bar, click Zoom In to increase the zoom level.

Benefits: The user experience when viewing 2D documents with high levels of details is improved thanks to the greater zoom level.

Ability to Display Relations

You can now display the relations between 3DSpace content opened in the 3DPlay widget, in the side panel available from the action bar.
Benefits: You now have access to additional information regarding your content directly in 3DPlay.
For more information, see Relations

Specifying a Mouse Control

Three preferences are now available to let you select a mouse profile for manipulating viewpoints in your dashboard app: CATIA, SOLIDWORKS, and 3DEXPERIENCE.
To specify this option:
  1. Select Me > Preferences.
  2. From the Mouse Control area, select the required option. By default, 3DEXPERIENCE is selected.
Benefits: You can gain easier access to viewpoints in your dashboard app by specifying the mouse profile option that best fits your needs.
For more information, see Mouse Controls
