What's New

This page describes recent changes in Engineering Release.

This page discusses:

R2022x FD01 (FP.2205)

Specification Document Subtypes

You can add subtypes and attributes to specification documents that you upload to products.
When you upload a specification document to a product, you can assign documentation subtypes and attribute values to it at the same time. You can also choose the collaborative space in which it is stored and the user responsibility required to edit it.

Benefits: You can provide information about the document as you upload it.
For more information, see Adding and Removing References and Specifications

Multivalue Attributes

You can now use custom child engineering item attributes that have multiple values, including integers, strings, and other types.

Benefits: You can now define attributes that have multiple values. The values appear in the product list.
For more information, see Adding Multivalue Attributes

Viewing and Updating Instance Quantities

The Change Quantity feature is renamed Instance Quantity and enhanced for this release.

Benefits: New enhancements let you change the number of instances of an object and quickly add and remove specific instances. You can also group instances to view and compare the quantities across model configurations.

Expanded Set of Object Type Extensions

With this release, you can choose from more object types and extensions as you develop your child product list.
This release includes all installed extensions. Attribute Management lets you use these extensions and their attributes. Attribute Management also lists deployment customization package extensions. After selecting the extensions that you want, you can then choose your corresponding attributes in the Attributes tab.

Benefits: You can add more types of objects and extensions to your product list than in earlier releases.

Multi-Level Expansion

This release introduces a new feature that lets you expand the list of engineering items to any level you choose.
Select one or more engineering items and choose a command. Otherwise, select nothing to apply the command to the entire list. This feature is available in Manufacturable/Procurable view, Advanced Filter view, and Reference view. It is not available in Flattened view.

Benefits: You can limit the child product list to show only the product levels that you want to view.
For more information, see Product Toolbar

Replace Multiple Products and Instances

A new feature in this release lets you select multiple products or instances and replace them all at the same time.

Benefits: You can save time when you need to replace a large number of products or instances.
For more information, see Replacing Products

Manufacturing Responsibility Data

You can now display manufacturing responsibility attributes in the child product list.
When added to a child product, the manufacturing responsibility appears only in the Information panel. You can now use Attribute Management to display the Manufacturing Responsibilities for all products in the child product list.

Benefits: You can now view product manufacturing responsibilities all in one place.
For more information, see Manufacturing Responsibility

Enhanced Product Information and Collaboration

Collaborate with other users, share objects, control data export, and other enhancements.
The information panel includes these new features:
  • Comments - Write comments for a selected object and view comments from other users.
  • Sharing - Share object ownership with other users. Objects include products, 3DShapes, and drawings.
  • IP Protection and Export Control - Protect objects by selecting one or more available IP protection, export control, or security control classes.

Benefits: These features improve collaboration among users and improve protection for company assets.

Moving Interchangeability Objects for Alternates

You can choose where to store alternate references.
Alternate references provide information about the relationship between a primary product and its alternate. Alternate references are now created in the collaborative space in which you choose to work instead of the physical product resides. You can also move the alternate reference to another collaborative space.

Benefits: You can choose the collaborative space where you want to maintain alternate references. You can also move them when and where you want.
For more information, see Moving Alternate References

Displaying Instance Attributes in Reference View

Multiple Instances of the same object may have different values for the same attribute. In Reference view, you can see the values listed for each instance.
For example, If you give a unique title to each instance in Usage view, all the titles appears in the Instance Title column in Reference view. The titles appear in one field, separated by commas. This feature also applies to other attributes, including custom attributes. Reference view shows only unique instances; duplicate values do not appear. When you export, data in the Instance columns are combined in the spreadsheet in Reference view.

Benefits: Reference view shows all the values applied to the instances of an object. You no longer need to verify every instance in Usage view to see all the values.

Alternates of Child Products

You can now carry over alternates from one product revision to the next revision.
You might have a parent product whose children have alternates assigned to them. If you revise the parent, you can now carry the alternates to the next revision.

Benefits: You can revise products without adding alternates again to the child parts.
For more information, see Viewing Alternate Products of Children Carrying over Alternate Products to Another Product Revision

Use Nearly any Attribute to Designate Terminal Items

The attributes that you can use to designate terminal items has been expanded in this release.
After your administrator defines one or more physical attributes, you select them in Attribute Management to make them available. You can then assign them as a terminal item for the products you want.

Use any string, integer, real, date, or Boolean value to designate terminal items in a child product list. You can even choose a value from a multivalued attribute.

Benefits: You have many more options for designating terminal items than in previous releases.
For more information, see Adding Custom Terminal Item Values
