Defect Properties

The properties page of a defect lists all the details that have been entered for the defect, and gives you access to related information about the defect.

Required access roles:

  • App-specific: Defect Engineer
  • Baseline: Author, Reader, or user with Review and Approve (RWA) license

Fields

Note: The Tools > Export action exports all fields on the Properties page except the Notes field because of its potential size.

Field NameDescription
Basics:
NameUnique identifier for the defect, usually an autoname such as DFT-003042.
OriginatedThe date the defect was created.
Title A brief description of the defect.
State Shows the states the defect must go through to be resolved, with the current state highlighted in yellow:

SubmitYou still need to gather additional details for the defect, but you want to enter the information you currently have.
EvaluateYou have entered all the needed details and the defect is ready for assessment.
OpenThe defect is being worked on and there are one or more defect actions associated with the defect.
ClosedAll defect actions associated with the defect have been completed and the defect is considered resolved.
RejectedThe Defect Manager determined that the problem is not considered a defect.

Expected Completion DateThe date when all associated defect actions are expected to be complete and verified.
Reported Against Model VersionThe model version revision in use when the defect was found. Click to open the model version.
Introduced InThe first revision of the model version where the defect is thought to exist. Click to open the model version revision.
When FoundThe state in the development process when the defect was discovered:
  • N/A
  • Development
  • First Pass Test
  • Second Pass Test
  • Final Qualification
  • After Release
TypeThe object type (Defect).
PolicyShows the policy that governs the defect's lifecycle.
Reason for Rejection Lists the reason the defect was not accepted. Only shows if the defect is in the rejected state.
Reason for DemotionOnly shows if the defect was demoted from one state in its lifecycle to an earlier state. If the defect is subsequently promoted, the field is removed from the properties page.
Ownership:
OriginatorThe person who reported the defect.
Reporting OrganizationThe organization associated with the person who reported the defect. Click to open the organization.
OwnerInitially, the person who created the defect.
Details:
SeverityHow severe the defect is, where S0 is a showstopper and S3 is the least severe.
PriorityThe priority for fixing this defect, where P0 means the highest priority and P3 is the lowest priority.
DescriptionA detailed description of the defect.
Steps to ReproduceA step-by-step procedure showing exactly how to reproduce the defect.
EnvironmentThe environment (client and server operating systems, browsers, and so on) where the defect occurred. Click to open the environment. See Environment Page.
Summary:
RegressionYes or No.
Regression FromIf regression is Yes, indicates in which version the feature worked.
Regression DetailsDetailed description about the regression.
NotesDiscussion notes about the defect. Click the Attachments link to attach a document, or access a document someone else attached to the defect. See Collaboration and Approvals User's Guide: Documents and Content.
SubscribersThe list of people and member lists to be notified whenever a change is made to this defect.
KeywordsA list of terms relevant to the defect that people can use when searching for defects.

Edit Details Edits the defect details.Editing a Defect's Properties
Mark as Duplicate Opens a search page where you select another defect to indicate that this defect duplicates that existing defect.

After selecting the duplicate, this defect is promoted to the Rejected state and "Duplicate" is entered for the Reason for Rejection. This defect is listed in the Duplicates page for the selected defect.

About Searches
Copy Creates a copy of the defect, and marks the copy as a related defect of the context defect. The newly-created defect is then listed as a related defect for the original defect. Copying a Defect

Lifecycle Actions

You can move the defect to other lifecycle states depending on the current lifecycle state. For example, if the defect is in the "Open" state, you can only move it to the "Rejected" state.

To Evaluate Only shows if the defect is in the "Submit" state. Moves to the "Evaluate" state.-
To Evaluate If the defect is in the "Open", "Closed", or "Rejected" state, moves the defect to the "Evaluate" state. You need to provide a reason for demoting the defect. Demoting a Rejected Defect to Evaluate or Submit
To Open If the defect is in the "Evaluate" state, moves the defect to the "Open" state.Opening a Defect To Resolve It
To Open If a defect is in the "Closed" or "Rejected" states, reopens the defect. You need to provide a reason for demoting the defect. Reopening a Defect
To Rejected Shows in the "Evaluate" or "Open" state. If in the "Open" state and all of the defect actions are in the "Evaluate" state, moves the defect to the "Rejected" state.

If any defect action is in "Open", "Test", or "Closed" states, you cannot reject the defect. If you need to do so, reject all remaining defect actions to automatically move the defect to the "Rejected" state.
