Task Breakdown Enhancements

There are several enhancements for task breakdown and display.
Enhancements include:
  • In the Tasks tab, the option for "All level tasks" is renamed "Include sub-project tasks." The Tasks tab displays only the leaf tasks of projects.
  • Task maturity and progress are rolled-up to the parent task. The maturity and progress of a parent task are defined by the children tasks.
  • An enterprise project can have subtasks on a parent task. Scheduling of parent tasks depends on their subtasks.
  • In the Summary tab, the counts shown are only for leaf tasks. The counts do not include summary tasks. The Content tab shows content for all tasks (summary and leaf).
Benefits: These refinements reflect the behaviors of parent and leaf tasks. Enterprise projects have the benefit of including subtasks, allowing breakdown into smaller tasks.
For more information, see Projects Tasks Managing Projects and Tasks Content Summary

Project Type for Team and Enterprise Projects

A Project Type field defines the intent and behavior of a project.
There are two project types: team project and enterprise project. You can select a project type when creating a project and see the type in the properties. A Leader can also change the project type from team to enterprise.
Benefits: The project type lets you define the overall behaviors of a project. An enterprise project has additional features, such as risks, schedule highlights, and task decomposition.
For more information, see Projects

Risks Integration For Enterprise Projects

An enterprise project can have risks associated with it.
You can create and view risks for an enterprise project.
Benefits: You can view and track a project's risks in terms of severity, assignments, trends, and any risk action plans.
For more information, see Risks

Shadow Gates on Projects

Shadow gates display for a project that is contributed to.
A Project Management or Project Planning project that is specified as the "Contributes to" for the current project has its milestones and gates displayed in a shadow color in the Schedule tab.
Benefits: You can see milestones for a contributing project in relation to the project that contributes to it.
For more information, see Managing Milestones

Schedule Highlights

Schedule highlights are tasks and milestones belonging to an enterprise project that display in a separate view.
In the Schedule tab, you can mark leaf tasks, milestones, and subproject tasks for display in a schedule highlights view. The highlights also display in the Summary tab. The blue line that appears in the Schedule Highlights view is called the bird's eye view.
Benefits: For a complex enterprise project, highlights are a way of selecting and displaying important tasks and subprojects.
For more information, see Managing Projects and Tasks Summary

Expanded View In the Schedule

An "Expanded View" command in the Schedule tab expands the root project and its subprojects.
The icon has a new "Expanded View" command.
Benefits: This is a quick way to expand the root project and its subprojects.
For more information, see Working the Schedule

Icon Change for Editing

The Edit icon on the tab views has changed.
In the upper-right corner of the tab views, the previous icon has been changed to . In the Schedule tab, if you select an object and click , you can edit the properties for that object.

Detach and Reparent Tasks

The Detach command lets you detach a task from its parent object.
You can detach any type of task from its parent project or summary task. You can reparent a task from one project to another or from one project to a summary task using the Parent field.
Benefits: Detaching allows you to reparent the task or make it a stand-alone task.
For more information, see Tasks

Task Duration in the Schedule View

You can change task duration by dragging in the Schedule view.
Hovering over a task gives you the option of changing its duration. Because summary task duration is determined by its children, you cannot change duration directly on a summary task.
Benefits: You can change a task's duration by dragging its start or end points instead of editing its properties.
For more information, see Working the Schedule

Modified Date in the Content Tab

The Content tab displays a new Modified column.
The Modified column shows the last modification date. If no modification occurred, the creation date is shown.

Benefits: You can see the modification date for project content without needing to open the content.
For more information, see Content

Leader Can Modify Owner Field

A Leader can modify the owner of a project, task, or milestone.
Benefits: A Leader is able to edit the owner field in cases when the owner is no longer working the project or has left the company.

Milestones From a "Contributes to" Project Display in the Schedule

The milestones from any project that is defined as "Contributes to" display in a softer shadow color in the Schedule tab.

  • A team project import lets you choose to update existing data or create new data.
