What's New

This page describes recent changes in 2D Layout for 3D Design.

This page discusses:

R2022x FD01 (FP.2205)

Addition of New Row for New Revision

Using the NewRevisionIdentifier keyword from the frame and title block script, adds a new row in the table for each revision of a product.
Benefits: You can now track the number of revisions made on a product.
For more information, see About Creating a Customized Frame and Title Block

Selecting Target Objects from Search

While using the Attribute Link and Route Link Templates commands, you can now select the target objects from the search.
Benefits: Using the search, you can quickly access any data from the database for selection.
For more information, see Adding Attribute Links Routing Link Templates

Sheet Browser Options

You can now customize the width of the sheet name tab in the sheet browser.
Benefits: You can now increase the size of the sheet name tab for better readability of bigger sheet names.
For more information, see About the Sheet Browser

Managing the Position of Angle Dimensions

While transforming a geometry, you can now choose the position of the angle dimension to be maintained:
  • Free orientation
  • Acute angle: 0-90 degrees
  • Obtuse angle: 90-180 degrees
  • Reflex angle: 180-360 degrees
Benefits: Using Keep angle range, the position of the angle dimension is maintained for better readability.
For more information, see Angle Dimension Stabilization

Managing the Orientation of the Annotation Leader

While creating an annotation, using the Leader extremity normal to reference option from the tools palette, you can now create a leader perpendicular to the reference geometry.

The Create leader extremity normal to reference option lets you define the orientation of the leader. To specify this option, go to Me > Preferences > App Preferences > 3D Modeling > Mechanical Systems > Drafting > Annotation and Dress-up.

Benefits: While creating an annotation with a leader, press Ctrl to quickly change the orientation of a leader extremity with respect to the geometry.
For more information, see Positioning the Leaders Annotation Creation

R2022x GA

Bill of Materials (BOM) Enhancements

The following BOM capabilities are now enhanced:
  • BOM table update now reflects the replacement of the product instances.
  • BOM table update isolates the rows of removed products using the Do not display product option.
Benefits: Using the Do not display product option, you can maintain the numbering of the items as it is, even if some products are removed.
For more information, see Update a Bill of Materials After Part Modification BOM Format Properties

Balloon and Assembly Annotation Enhancements

The following capabilities are now enhanced:
  • Balloons corresponding to the replaced instances are created according to the BOM row, even if the BOM table is not up to date.
  • Engineering connections, having the definition of assembly annotations, can be customized (for example, the place of engineering connections and affected products).
  • Integration of BOM table and BOM balloons in component family and its simulation process:
    • Update the BOM.
    • Clean the invalid assembly annotations.
    • Reposition the balloons.
Benefits:
  • The balloons and the BOM table rows are now synchronous.
  • Using the existing Layout/Drawing Batch > Clean, repair, and position annotations command, you can now perform the BOM update, clean invalid assembly annotations, and reposition the balloons, in the assembly context.
For more information, see Creating Balloons Using the Batch Utility from the Top Bar

Creating Engineering Connections

These options lets you define the creation of engineering connections in the parent product of the following:
  • The selected assembly geometries
  • The selected assembly geometries and the created annotations

To specify these options, select Me > Preferences > App Preferences > 3D Modeling > Mechanical Systems > 2D Layout for 3D Design > Administration.

Benefits: Using the new Assembly Context preferences, you can now create engineering connections in the parent product.
For more information, see Assembly Context

Volume Clippings

You can now select any part body to clip the view background.
Benefits: You have more freedom to choose objects while clipping a view background using the volume clipping option.
For more information, see Adding a Volume Clipping

Scaling Labels

The label feature is now enhanced with the following capabilities:
  • Scale the width and height values.
  • Lock the ratio of width and height scale.
  • Scale the label template non-uniformly.
Benefits: You can now have different scale values for the label than the scale values of the view.
For more information, see Scale Labels Label Properties

Enhanced User Interface for Defining Engineering Connections

The user interface of the Engineering Connection Definition dialog box is now improved.
Benefits: You can now perform actions quickly with less number of clicks. The dialog box is now simple to interact and has immersive capability, and it is fully compliant with touch devices.
For more information, see Creating Annotations in Assembly Context

Edge of Undefined Shape

While creating the edge of an undefined shape annotation, you can now select external geometries in the assembly context.
Benefits: Using the Edge of Undefined Shape command, you can now create an engineering connection for the edge of undefined shape symbols.
For more information, see Annotating the Edges of Undefined Shapes

3D Polyhedral Data

You can now create distance dimensions and angle dimensions between edges.
Benefits: It is now possible to create distance dimensions and angle dimensions in the views created from a 3D polyhedral data.
For more information, see Polyhedral Geometry in 2D Layout for 3D Design
